About the project
In this project we combined tall oversized equipment and a standard-size load on one open platform (Flatrack container) to optimise ocean freight costs from the USA to Ukraine.
Two different shipments were collected by separate trucks across the USA and consolidated on a single Flatrack. On arrival at the destination port, delivery to Ukraine was carried out by two separate trucks according to the dimensions and route requirements.
Cargo #1 — light, but tall
This load is a clear example that “oversized” is not always about weight. Despite its relatively low mass, a height of over 4 metres required specialised low-bed semi-trailers and permits for transport across the USA, Europe and Ukraine.
We arranged the shipment in line with all regulatory requirements and provided full support, including customs clearance.
Cargo #2 — standard-looking, but with a catch
The second load had standard dimensions, but an oil leak was found at the port of departure because the equipment was used. Despite our earlier request to the shipper about technical fluids, the port refused to accept the cargo.
We promptly informed the client and started looking for a technical solution. After contacting more than 20 service companies, we found a contractor who fixed the leak. The solution was agreed with the client, the defects were eliminated and the port accepted the cargo without delay.
Takeaways
This project confirmed once again that every shipment is unique, especially with used equipment. Even a seemingly “simple” load can create serious logistics challenges.
That is why we carefully verify all technical parameters at the preparation stage, paying special attention to the actual weight and the presence of fluids in used equipment. This is critical for multimodal transport — from selecting the right transport and permits to avoiding extra costs and downtime.
Result
The equipment was delivered to Ukraine on time, undamaged and without delays, in full compliance with the requirements for oversized and standard cargo.
This case demonstrates our approach: full control of the logistics process, fast resolution of non-standard issues and accountability for the result at every stage.
